Building a Brighter Future in The Gambia

Since 2010, Alan Seager, Managing Director of Seager Home Solutions, has been involved in the fundraising and construction of a primary school in Sukuta, The Gambia. This well-supported charity within the company aims to provide education in a safe, clean environment, leading to better employment and training prospects for the children. With over £80,000 raised, the charity has significantly improved educational conditions, transforming from outdoor classes under a tree to a proper school building, giving children a better start in life.

Building and Sustaining a School for Underprivileged Children

Limited resources and no available classrooms left children in Sukuta, The Gambia, with minimal educational opportunities. Despite these challenges, their smiles remained bright. Following a successful charity golf day in May 2011, construction of a new school began in October 2011. By May 2012, the school was 75% complete, and another golf event raised over £12,000, enabling the school’s completion and opening on September 24, 2012. Although the school is now operational, it still requires funding for maintenance, stationery, and salaries. The charity also aims to sponsor children for continued education beyond age seven and is considering building another nursery school. Fundraising efforts are ongoing.
